Guild Wars to get first new region and dungeons in 20 years with upcoming expansion
Guild Wars is preparing for a historic update: 20 years after the game's initial launch, the developers are releasing its first paid DLC. The "Afterlife" expansion will introduce a new territory, encounters with a cult, and dungeons featuring roguelike gameplay elements. However, players will have to wait until January 2027 for the release.
In "Afterlife," players will explore an entirely new region inspired by South American jungles and ancient civilizations. There, they will face off against a powerful cult backed by hordes of nightmarish creatures. The developers promise more than just a new area — it will be a distinct adventure filled with dangerous foes.

Another significant addition is the inclusion of dungeons with roguelike elements. These will differ from standard in-game activities, as each run will offer a unique set of possibilities and challenges.
At the start of a run, players will be provided with a separate skill bar, and as they defeat enemies, they will be able to choose new abilities. Crucially, players will not be limited to the skills of their own class; they will also have access to abilities from other professions. Rewards earned can be used not only in subsequent dungeon runs but also in other game modes.
