Android devices under new Mandrake malware threat
A well-known software security company, Bitdefenter Labs, has discovered new malware that attacks Android devices. According to them, this malicious software has a completely different character, it does not attack every user, but selects only those from which he can get more useful data. It is only known that the developers limited the pest's capabilities by prohibiting it from attacking certain countries, including the countries of the former Soviet Union, Africa and the Middle East. Studies have shown that Australia is the main target of malware, but infections have also been reported in the United States, Canada, and several European countries.

This software originates in 2016, but was discovered only at the beginning of this year. In general, it managed to infect 100 thousand devices, and at the beginning of 2020, 10,000 thousand infected devices were detected. Why did malware manage to go unnoticed for so long? The reason is that the malicious code is not included in the application itself, however, these applications have a separate process that launches spyware functions. Thus, the hackers behind this process do not include these features when testing by Google. If the application includes this code, then the victim simply does not have a chance to hide his personal data and they simply pass into the hands of attackers.

Mandrake - the so-called malicious program, for many years spread through applications on Google Play, published under different names of developers.

And to attract the attention of users, these applications were well supported, and the developers responded to user reviews. In addition, some programs had their own pages on social networks. But the most interesting thing is that as soon as the malicious program managed to get user data, it was immediately deleted from the device.

At the moment, Google has not yet commented on the current situation, and the only right decision not to get infected, it remains only to trust applications that have been tested for years.
