Monster Hunter Outlanders gets first feedback from 3rd closed beta test
The third closed beta has already divided players into two camps: some note significant improvements to the mobile version, while others aren't yet ready to accept it as a "true" Monster Hunter experience.

For this test, the developers leaned into a formula more familiar to the series. Hunting large monsters has become more central to the gameplay, and the impact of automated mechanics on battle outcomes has been scaled back. In other words, the game now demands more active player participation rather than just passive observation of the action on screen.

Early impressions highlight higher frame rates and improved visual quality. Notably, the smartphone doesn't turn into a "pocket heater" after about 20 minutes of play — an impressive feat for a mobile title.

The situation with controllers is a bit more complicated. There is currently no native support for standard controllers from Xbox, PlayStation, or other major manufacturers. However, players can use controllers that allow physical buttons to be mapped to virtual touchscreen controls.

Some participants compare the combat pacing of Monster Hunter Outlanders to that of Monster Hunter Wilds, finding it suitably dynamic. Touch controls, however, are receiving far less praise; some players find them awkward and note that they require a learning curve.

Ultimately, the big question remains: can a mobile Monster Hunter title retain its audience after launch?
