Colorful arcade Disney Speedstorm brings a new track to smartphones
The arcade racing game Disney Speedstorm, released last year for PC and consoles by Gameloft in collaboration with, as you might guess, Disney, started the new season with two interesting changes:
For now, the game can be downloaded from Google Play and the App Store in 25 countries participating in the trial launch, but over time its geography should expand.
The gameplay of Disney Speedstorm is similar to Mario Kart. Here, players also take part in short races along super-fast tracks, themed after the colorful worlds of Disney and Pixar. So, you can see the port of the Kraken from “The Pirates of the Caribbean”, picturesque ruins overgrown with vines from “The Jungle Book” and other recognizable places.
The kart controls are entirely manual, with the exception of the gas pedal, which operates automatically to push the car forward. Disney characters are also behind the wheel, and their choice is so wide that anyone can play as their favorite hero, from Mickey Mouse to the Puzzle 2 characters who have already been introduced into the plot. And these are not just familiar images to attract fans – each hero here has his own character, which is reflected in his driving style. A character's abilities can be upgraded to improve his skills and his results on the track.
Each victory opens up new modes, characters and locations, many of which will delight you with pleasant bonuses – for example, various objects will be scattered along the routes, by picking up which you can either improve your results or slow down your opponents. In addition, gamers who finish first will upgrade their season pass.
Disney Speedstorm takes customization to the next level, allowing you to customize every detail to suit your style and vision. The coloring of the karts, the shape of the wings, and the features of the racers' costumes – everything will express your individuality.
The only thing that spoils the picture is the not-too-high popularity of Disney Speedstorm. The game has so far received only the 153rd place among races in the USA, but the launch has taken place quite recently, so it’s too early to draw conclusions.
- the emergence of a mobile version for Android and iOS;
- transition to a free-to-play distribution model.
