Facing Emotions - technology that helps blind people see
In today's world, it is very important to hear the support of relatives, especially away from home. The only thing that can reduce the distance between relatives is voice conversations and video chats. Most prefer video chatting, so the interlocutor not only can hear a dear person, but also see. Unfortunately, people with disabilities, or rather blind people, simply do not experience this happiness. Therefore, Huawei, together with the Polish Association of the Blind, created something called Facing Emotions. This program will allow blind people to hear the interlocutor's emotions, the application has been adapted only for Huawei Mate 20 Pro, but is a huge success. How it works? Artificial intelligence uses a face scanner and recognizes the person’s mimic and psychological state on the fly. The camera of the smartphone completely scans the face from the eyebrows to the lips, and then calculates their deviation from the norm in shape relative to each other. And this is enough to reveal the emotional state of a person. The application recognizes 7 basic emotions and transitions between their state. Emotional states are computed using short sound signals developed by the blind composer Tomash Biletsky. This technology has already been tested by several people, they were all satisfied, and the main advantage is that this development does not require an Internet connection and everything works autonomously.
